Fellowship

undefined

God calls us to be in fellowship with him and with other members of God’s family.

That sense of community and connection is most evident when we worship, pray, learn and serve together…when we support and encourage one another… and when we enjoy each other’s company.

Our Saviour’s offers a number of fellowship opportunities – each Sunday and at various other times during the year – to connect with members and friends:

Coffee Hour

Lutherans are known for their love of coffee (indeed, some have jokingly referred to it as the third sacrament). We invite you to join us each Sunday after 10:30 worship for coffee and conversation in Schilke Hall. Tea, baked goods, juice or punch are usually served as well. Stay for a few minutes or the whole hour. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people or catch up with old friends.

On occasion, special receptions are held during coffee hour to welcome new members, and to celebrate First Communions, Confirmations and other important milestones.

Potluck Dinners and Brunches

Schilke Hall also is the scene of occasional potluck dinners and brunches, where you can find a variety of foods that reflect the diverse heritages of our members. These meals are usually served on special occasions, such as holidays and anniversaries, as well as on the day of our annual church meeting in late January.

Soup and Bread Suppers

Our Saviour’s hosts a simple soup and bread supper during Lent. The church is one of several local ELCA congregations that take a turn hosting a meal and an evening prayer service for area Lutherans on successive Wednesdays during this solemn season.

Annual Church Picnic

The Annual Church Picnic – sometimes referred to as the Rally Day Picnic – is held in mid-September. This outdoor barbecue, which takes place in our church courtyard, marks the end of summer and the return to our normal worship and education schedule in the fall. Beside burgers, hot dogs and other picnic fare, there are lawn games for the enjoyment of kids of all ages.

Heritage Luncheons

Our Saviour’s hosts two Heritage Luncheons each year – one in May, the other in December – to honor the elder members of the church, those 75 and older. The luncheons are held at local restaurants.

Church Outings

Members of Our Saviour’s join together for the occasional group outing, including to Bridgeport Bluefish baseball games at Harbor Yard and to Bridgeport Sound Tigers hockey games at Webster Bank Arena.
