Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re new to Our Saviour’s, you probably have a few questions. We try to answer the most common ones below, but if you’re still not sure about something, please contact us.

What is Our Saviour’s like?

Our Saviour’s is a small, vibrant church with a big heart. About 100 to 150 people worship with us each week, from Fairfield and surrounding communities, including Bridgeport, Easton, Monroe, Trumbull, Weston and Westport. You’ll see people of all ages, and at various stages of life. Many have been here for years, while others are new to our faith community. Our backgrounds are diverse, but we’re united in our love of God and desire to share Christ’s love with others.

What should I wear?

Whatever you’re most comfortable in. Just come as you are.

How do I get to Our Saviour’s?

You’ll find easy driving directions here.

Where should I park?

For your convenience, look for special visitor’s parking spaces near the main entrance to the church. But feel free to park anywhere you want. We have two parking lots, one on either side of the church.

What should I expect when I walk in the door?

A warm welcome, of course! There’s a greeter in our Narthex to answer your questions, and our ushers will provide you with a bulletin that lists the order of our service and other information. They will be happy to assist you.

What’s your worship service like?

As a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), our worship style is liturgical, meaning there is a basic pattern to how we worship. God’s Word is a central element of our service – whether expressed through Scripture, sermon or song – and each week we share a meal at the Lord’s table.

We currently offer one Sunday worship service at 10:00 am that lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes. During the summer  from Memorial Day to Labor Day  we have a single service at 9:30 am.

Will I have to introduce myself?

We don’t ask visitors to stand up and introduce themselves. You can say hello to our pastor on the way out and, if you want to, join us for refreshments in our fellowship hall after the 10:30 service. If you want to be contacted again, please sign our guest registry in the Narthex.

Will I be able to take Communion?

We welcome to the Lord’s table all who hunger and thirst for Christ, no matter their faith tradition. We offer unleavened bread or gluten-free wafers, and wine or grape juice, for those who prefer. Children who haven’t yet received instruction in the sacrament of Holy Communion are invited to come forward for a blessing.

Can I bring my children to worship?

Absolutely! A short children’s sermon is offered near the beginning of our worship, and we provide “busy bags” with crayons, books and other fun activities to keep youngsters occupied during the service. If you prefer, nursery care is available for children five and younger.

What other activities are available for children?

We offer Sunday School from 9:00 am to 9:45 am, along with many other fun and educational activities for children. Visit our Kids page for more details. For programs geared to tweens and teens, check out our Youth page.

What activities are available for adults?

There is plenty to learn, do and experience at Our Saviour’s. Start by visiting our Adults page. And don’t forget to join us for refreshments after our 10:00 service, where you’ll find both good coffee and good conversation (and treats for the kids, too).

Is the church accessible for those with disabilities?

Yes. Handicapped parking is available near our main entrance, which features a sloped walkway for easy access. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact us.

How do I become a member?

If you’re coming from another Lutheran congregation, you can simply transfer your membership. If you’re joining us from another faith tradition, we invite you to learn more about our Lutheran tradition. Either way, you’ll receive friendly support and encouragement from our members. Please contact the Pastor for more details.

Let this house proclaim from floor to rafter: All are welcome in this place.
