Seafarers' Christmas-At-Sea

This coming Sunday, December 8, is Seafarers Sunday at Our Saviour's. During the 10:30 service, we will hear from Ruth Setaro, New England port chaplain for our mission partner, Seafarers International House (SIH), about the plight of these workers, who are so necessary for global trade, but who very often have poor working conditions..

The difficult life of Filipino seafarers, who make up the bulk of these workers, was profiled in a November 30 article in The New York Times, "The Lonely and Dangerous Life of the Filipino Seafarer". To read the news article log onto https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/30/world/asia/philippines-mariners-cargo...

As you will read, seafarers face a lonely life at sea, separated for months at a time from homes and families. Their isolation is even more painful during the Christmas season.

You can buoy their spirits by donating to the SIH Christmas-at-Sea program. Your gifts of new clothing (sweatshirt, three pairs of socks, a casual t-shirt and a knit cap); a bar of chocolate, can of nuts or healthy snack bar, and a Christmas card will be put into a satchel, along with devotional materials provided by SIH, and delivered to seafarers by Chaplain Ruth.

Donate the contents of one or more satchels, or individual items, by this Sunday, December 8. Cash donations are also appreciated.
